Cars as the IoT platform for V2V crowd and V2I analytics

No questions, the automotive industry will be the first one among other in the adoption of IoT! It will transform almost all cars to something we can see as IoT platforms having prefix "open" in many car's features or technologies. The logic behind this guess is very simple: 1. Modern cars are full of MCUs, CPUs and the variety of sensors. All that stuff sits on the top of buses and on-board networks. 2.  Any car or fleet are potential source of telemetry, trajectory data and driver's habits, which can be used for provisioning, diagnostics and any other prediction almost in anything we can imaging. How about a message on the dash board: "Wipers need to be changed! Storm coming in the area in 2 days" 3. If someone deployed effective V2V and V2I communication then the whole problematic in the traffic control, the navigation and the dynamic dispatching became more feasible for solutions in very wide scale and degree. Who spending time in the ...

Just to be aware of it

Just re-posting one of my old posts as a remind on the awareness of in the current turbulent time... So, based on Wikipedia , St Augustine divided lies into eight categories, listed in order of descending severity: Lies in religious teaching. Lies that harm others and help no one. Lies that harm others and help someone. Lies told for the pleasure of lying. Lies told to “please others in smooth discourse.” Lies that harm no one and that help someone. Lies that harm no one and that save someone’s life. Lies that harm no one and that save someone’s “purity.” m.r.

IoT: Where is the source of Trust?

As I mentioned earlier, the one of problem that IoT will be fundamentally different from everything we had dealt before. One example, the trust in the current network is based on digital certificates are issued by the hierarchy of Certificate Authorities. Basically, each CA maintains two data sets: one for valid certificates and one for revoked certificates. While number of issued certificates is limited the whole system of trust somehow works, the revoke lists are relatively short and the traffic for validation of certificate is small. Now, just scale everything to the magnitude of IoT, how it will look like? The problem seems to be too complex, to process everything on the edge or in the sensor space and it means mainly that “The Everything” need to be partitioned by a cost on the transmission a single data bit and some dimensional or space boundaries... N.B. Pandora's Box of IPv6 has not been opened yet.

IoT

Visiting technology conferences for last few month I discover the new buzz word IoT Basically, nothing new versus M2M, but one aspect I found interesting – it is the SCALE. So, from what IoT stands for? The first letter “I” has prematurely association to “Internet” with the main meaning of connectivity over IPv6. The involvement of IPv6 came just from the size of the problem. If we'll look deeply in the applicability of IPv6 we quickly found that it will not work. One exception that IPv6 has a technical possibility to enumerate all sensors, but immediately after that point all advantages of IPv6 are ended and many troubles arise. That's why smart people associated “I” with “Intelligence”. They do not bind any current technology the the buzz word, so they have a freedom to elaborate on “Intelligence of Things”, but really smart people do not stop, they expand to the “IoE” buzz word, “Internet of Everything” or “Intelligence of Everything”... Who knows? It sounds just r...
